Chapter 2: MOVEMENT I — THE COLD EMBRACE OF THE SCULPTOR

Chapter 2:A STAR CALLED NIGERIA

Chapter 2: A STAR CALLED NIGERIA

Poetic Opening

Out of slavery, chains, and stolen years,
Out of colonization's wounds and tears,
Out of chaos, coups, and endless war,
Out of corruption's greed and tribal sores,
A Star called Nigeria is born.

"Nigeria!" the nations shouted.
"Who are you? What are you?
Where are you from—and where are you going?"

And from among the scattered eggs of the earth,
A thick, defiant voice replied:

"I am no accident of geography.
I am the child of history and divine intention.
I am the by-product of forces—earthly and eternal—
That collided in the crucible of time.
I am a precious lily in the eyes of a Supra-Mundane Being
Who watches over me and keeps me from extinction."

1. The Cosmic Declaration

She calls herself a star—not because she has never fallen,
But because she keeps rising.
Her light flickers, yes, but it refuses to fade.
Empires have carved her, merchants have sold her,
Yet her name still burns upon the map of Africa.

When the night of colonization ended,
She emerged—dazzled but determined—
Her light a symbol for black freedom across the world.
Other nations looked to her for direction,
For in her size and strength lay the hope of a continent.

"She was born out of conquest, but destined for contribution."

2. A Star Among Shadows

But every star must travel through darkness.
The decades after independence were clouded by storms—
Military decrees, broken constitutions,
And the endless struggle between tribe and truth.

Still, the star refused to go out.
Each coup, each crisis, each scandal
Was another eclipse testing her endurance.

When democracy returned in 1999,
The world expected a sunrise.
But corruption, misrule, and inequality
Hung like dust over her brilliance.

She became the paradox of the modern world:
A nation rich in people and poor in purpose,
Abundant in resources yet bankrupt in trust.

3. The Voice of Destiny

"I am Nigeria," the star continues,
"A constellation of over two hundred languages,
Woven into one imperfect fabric.
I am the laughter of Lagos traffic,
The silence of desert prayers,
The song of fishermen in the Delta,
And the hum of servers in a Yaba tech hub.

"I have stumbled, but I have not been consumed.
The hands that exploit me cannot erase my essence.
For I am watched by One greater than history itself."

Her testimony is both confession and covenant.
She admits her wounds, yet claims her worth.
The world, listening, marvels that she still shines.

4. Fire and Faith: The Inner Fuel

What keeps this star alive?
Not politics, not oil, not foreign aid—
But faith, stubborn and luminous.

It glows in markets where traders pray before opening shop,
In classrooms where teachers teach without pay,
In hospitals where nurses whisper hope into failing hearts.
It glows in the songs of churches and the calls of muezzins,
In the laughter that defies hunger.

Her people, though weary, still believe in tomorrow.
They name their children Hope, Destiny, and Blessing
As if to remind heaven that the promise must yet be kept.

5. The Burden of Brightness

Every star carries the weight of its own gravity.
For Nigeria, the weight is expectation—
From her citizens, her continent, her Creator.

She must prove that size can coexist with sense,
That diversity can breed strength,
That failure is not her final chapter.

Yet, expectation alone cannot sustain light.
Without justice, brightness becomes glare;
Without truth, fame becomes shadow.
Her challenge is not to shine more,
But to shine right.

6. The Star and Her Children

Her children scatter across the world—
To London, Toronto, Dubai, and Johannesburg—
Carrying fragments of her light in their eyes.
They study, work, sing, and build.
Each remittance they send is a spark returning home.
In 2015 alone, over $20 billion crossed oceans,
Proof that the umbilical cord of hope is unbroken.

Yet the diaspora cannot carry her alone.
The star's brilliance must also be rekindled at home—
Through honesty, service, and vision.
Every classroom rebuilt, every road repaired,
Every mind awakened becomes a new constellation.

7. Toward the Next Orbit

A Star called Nigeria still travels through space.
Her orbit is turbulent, her path uncertain,
But her direction is fixed toward light.

If her people learn from the eclipses of their past,
If her leaders understand that greatness is stewardship,
Then the darkness of yesterday will only make her shine clearer.

For even the most wounded star can light galaxies,
And even the most broken nation can teach the world resilience.

She is not yet what she was meant to be—
But she is not what she used to be.

Her destiny is not a question mark,
But a comma,
Inviting continuation.
